Enabling Spatial Sounds during Facetime Calls lets the voices of each person in the call spread out according to their position on the screen. This feature lets you experience a call like you are talking with these persons face-to-face.
Facetime Spatial Audio
Spatial Audio is a built-in feature in supported iPhone and iPad models. It is automatically activated during a Facetime call.
Here are the iPhone and iPad models that support Spatial Audio:
- iPhone XR or later models (except iPhone XE)
- iPad Air 3rd generation or later
- iPad mini 5th generation or later
- iPad 8th or later
- 11-inch iPad Pro (2018 and later)
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2018 or later)
- iPad Pro (2021)
How to Filter out Background Sounds
To experience clearer audio and a better FaceTime Audio experience, you can block your background noise using Voice Isolation.
Voice Isolation prioritizes your voice over other sounds that your microphone picks up during a FaceTime Call. With this feature enabled, you can ensure that the person you are talking with hears more of your voice than the unnecessary noise from your background.
To enable Voice Isolation during a FaceTime call, follow these steps:
1. Once your FaceTime is active, diagonally swipe down from the upper-right corner of your screen.

2. Tap “Mic Mode”.

3. Select “Voice Isolation”.

How to Enable Wide Spectrum Mode
While Voice Isolation mode prioritizes your voice, Wide Spectrum Mode lets you capture all the background sounds that your microphone picks up during a FaceTime Call.
Activate Wide Spectrum if you want to include noises in your background. But if your background noise is too loud, consider going back to Voice Isolation mode.
To enable Wide Spectrum during a FaceTime call, follow these steps:
1. Once your FaceTime is active, diagonally swipe down from the upper-right corner of your screen.

2. Tap “Mic Mode”.

3. Select “Wide Spectrum”.

How to Mute Microphone
You can mute your microphone during a FaceTime call if you don’t want to be heard. This microphone control is useful during meetings or any conversations that require you to turn off your microphone.
To mute your microphone during a FaceTime call, follow these steps.
1. Once your FaceTime call is active, tap the microphone icon.

2. You will have a prompt that your microphone is turned off.
You will also notice that the microphone icon is not already highlighted, which means it’s disabled.
