As the old saying goes, “there’s an app for that.”
Whether you’re a new iPhone user or you’ve been in the Apple ecosystem for years, you no doubt know how true that really is.
But over time, it’s not uncommon for the “Home” screen on your iPhone to become absolutely cluttered with countless icons. Some of them you probably don’t even use on a regular basis.
Over the years, Apple has introduced a variety of features that are designed to help with this. First came folders, then more recently the App Launcher with the release of iOS 14.
But still, the chances are high that you’ll run into a situation where it just becomes too hard to quickly find what you’re looking for.
At the same time, you shouldn’t worry. There are still a number of techniques that you can use to better organize the “Home” screen on your iPhone. You just need to keep a few key things in mind.
Best Practices for Organizing Your iPhone’s Home Screen
If you want to re-order the apps on your iPhone’s “Home” screen or add them to new folders, the first thing you need to do is select one and long-press on it until the entire screen begins to jiggle.
At that point, you have two options available to you. You can re-order them in any way that you’d like by simply tapping and dragging them into your desired location.
Or, you could drag one app over top of another – at which point a new folder will be created. Not only will you be able to give the folder any name you’d like, but you’ll also be able to add additional apps to the folder using the same method.
This is a great organizational tool if you want to create “themed” folders for categories like “Entertainment” or “Food & Beverage,” for example.
Beyond that, you can also remove apps that you don’t regularly use from your “Home” screen without uninstalling them from your device.
To do that, long-press on the app icon until the action menu appears. At the bottom of the menu, you’ll see three options – “Edit Home Screen,” “Share App” and “Remove App.”
Select the “Remove App” option to bring up another menu. Choose the option labeled “Remove from Home Screen.”
Now, the icon will be gone but you’ll still be able to get to it using either the App Launcher or by searching for it using its name.

I wish I could DELETE apps that don’t have the minus – on them when you hold down on them. Come on Pete, show me how.
If you put the apps that you use all the time into a single folder and put that folder in the dock then you never have to look around because you’re on the wrong page.
