One of the great things about the iPhone is that it comes with its own messaging application built right in.
Because there are so many iPhone owners out there, iMessage has quickly become one of the most widely used apps of its type on the planet.
But over the last few years, a few third party apps have risen in popularity – with Signal being one of the best.
It offers more privacy than alternatives like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or even traditional SMS. It also brings with it a wide range of different benefits that you’re definitely going to want to know about.
The Power of the Signal App: Breaking Things Down
As stated, Signal bills itself as one of the most secure messaging apps available to download today.
Part of this is due to the fact that Signal isn’t actually owned by a large tech conglomerate. It’s put out by a non-profit organization, meaning that it doesn’t have a Board of Directors or shareholders to answer to.
Signal is also free – a phone number is all you need to sign up for your account. It’s available to download in the iTunes App Store right now, and it offers file transfers in addition to both voice and video calls.
But the real reason why Signal has become so popular over the years has to do with the incredible security features it offers.
Signal offers encryption in chats between two people, for example, meaning that only those two parties will ever be able to see the text being shared.
Likewise, Signal also offers encrypted group chats if you want to open the conversation up to multiple people.
Maybe the biggest benefit to that end is that all of your Signal conversations are only stored locally on your iPhone. They’re not transferred into the cloud where they can then be synched between multiple devices.
This is great, because someone actually needs to have physical access to your device in order to see who you’re talking to and what you’ve been talking about.
If all of that chat information were stored in the cloud, all someone would need is your username and password, and they could get all of that information remotely.
It’s another in a long line of reasons why Signal has become so popular in such a short amount of time, and it’s definitely worthy of your attention.

Must the callee’s number be in Signal to have a conversation? Similar to WhatsApp?
How can I block text messages that are coming from “groups” and for which I have NO INTEREST at all. I have my texts set up to be KNOWN and UNKNOWN senders so at least they are going into the unknown group. I would like to block them completely.
