Quickly Block a Number in Your iPhone

By iPad Pete 10 Comments

Do you frequently receive calls or messages on your iPhone from people you don’t know? You might find yourself looking at the phone trying to decide what to do with the call or message.

All you see are numbers now knowing if you should respond or pick up the call. But there is a simple step-by-step process to help you block these numbers on your iPhone.

There are 2 ways you can do this – you can block numbers through your call log in your Phone App or block it right inside your Messages app.

Here is how you can do it in your call log in your Phone app.

Block a Caller

Step 1. Open your Phone App

Step 2. Once you locate the number you want to block, click the “i” icon next to it

Step 3. Click the “Block this Caller” option at the bottom

Now wasn’t that a breeze?

Now, you might receive a message from an unknown number offering your products and services you’re not interested in. You can block those numbers as well. Try this out!

Block Messages

Step 1. Open your Messages App

Step 2. Find and open the message sent by the number you want to block

Step 3. Click the top part to reveal more options then tap on the Info icon.

Step 4. Once there, you need to tap on the Info icon again.

Step 5. You can tap on the “Block this Caller” option at the bottom

Remember that after you have blocked a number, you will not receive further messages or calls from them. But this is limited to Apple’s communication applications. This usually covers texts, calls, and even Facetime. What does it mean?

Well, if they are really persistent, they could try reaching out to you through third-party applications. If you are worried that the person might get offended if you block them, don’t worry! There is a low chance that they will know about it.

You can also use the “Do Not Disturb” function of your iPhone. This will limit the calls you get from people on your contacts list.

That is it! So the next time you want to stop receiving calls or messages from numbers you do not recognize, simply follow the steps above.

I’ve used this tip a lot over the last year or so. The problem is once all these numbers are blocked (and there are MANY) they go into your trash under the voice mail part of your phone. That means it fills up the voice mail box. Once it is full you can not receive messages from people you WANT to received messages from. So not, you empty your trash and GUESS WHAT! It starts all over again receiving unwanted calls. I don’t know how to resolve this problem. There should be a way to block the numbers without them going to trash in the voice mail box. My cell phone carrier is very good about seeing these calls as SPAM or not letting them go through and ring. But that doesn’t block them. When I look at recent calls, there is a whole list of numbers in RED, which means they’ve been caught by my phone carrier but not blocked.

When you block a phone number or contact, they can still leave a voicemail, but you won’t get a notification. Messages that are sent or received won’t be delivered. Also, the contact won’t get a notification that the call or message was blocked.

The most frustrating part of blocking numbers is these scammers just find another number. The scam text messages are so frustrating.
