Problem with Read Receipt On iMessage

By iPad Pete 10 Comments

Wouldn’t it be great to know if the person you sent a message to received and read what you sent? Well, iMessage has had this technology in place for a long time now. And much like other online messaging apps, it proves to be a great tool to help you manage communications as well as your expectations.

What is a “Read Receipt” and how does it work?

The concept behind the tech is quite simple – it allows message senders to know if their message was read by the recipient. So if you are the one using it and you sent a message to your son, you will know if he read it or not. In the same way, when your son sends you a message, he will know if you have already read his message.

Why is it important?

This is helpful in many ways because it tells you when your message was already read or not. If you are planning a party, a trip, or a simple get-together – this technology tells you exactly who has read your message about it.

If you are using it for work, there could be important and time-sensitive messages you send through iMessage. This allows you to manage expectations and stay on top of your timeline for work-related concerns.

How to turn “Read Receipt” on?

Turning it on is so simple to use, just follow these quick and easy steps.

Step 1 – Find and tap on your Settings app in your iPhone

Step 2 – Scroll down to locate the Messages option. Tap on it.

Step 3 – Look for the Send Read Receipt option

Step 4 – You can toggle it On (turns green) or OFF (turns gray)

What is wrong with “Read Receipt” now?

The problem now with the tech is that a recurring bug deep in your iPhone’s iOS is turning it on. This is after you have turned it off.

This was an issue that was resolved in the past. But with iOS 15, the bug seemed to have resurfaced making users a little anxious. This is true especially for those who chose to have the option turned off.

Some claim that restarting their iPhone unit fixed the issue. But for the most part, this is a temporary fix. This is an issue Apple needs to work on and send a patch to fix in the iOS itself. For now, let’s wait for further updates if you are affected by this glitch.

When I send my son an iMessage, I receive a “delivered” and “read” back however, when I send one to my daughter, all I receive back is the “delivered”! We all have the same provider and I can’t understand why the difference!
