iPhone App that Identifies Flowers & Plants (A Botanist in Your Pocket)

By iPad Pete 13 Comments

Have you ever been out for a lovely walk on a nice afternoon and encountered a flower you’ve never seen before?

Sure, you could try to use Google to find more information – but that really requires you to get specific in the keywords and phrases that you’re using.

Now, you don’t have to wonder about the plants you encounter because the PictureThis app will tell you everything you need to know, and then some.

It’s an online plant encyclopedia and plant identifier, and as an iPhone app it brings with it a wide range of benefits that are absolutely worth a closer look.

PictureThis: Breaking Things Down

PictureThis allows you to identify virtually any plant you come across with a snap – literally. All you have to do is take a photo (or upload one you already have) and you’ll get instant, accurate plant ID results.

Thanks to the wonders of artificial intelligence, PictureThis is able to positively identify more than 10,000 different plant species in a matter of seconds.

You’ll also get so much more than just the plant’s name. You’ll be able to dive deep into things like the watering frequency, what you need to do to keep pests and diseases away and more. It will also offer up literature and fun facts pertaining to the plants you see, if available.

If you’re looking for more information about one of your own plants that is currently sick, PictureThis has you covered to that end, too. If you take a picture of the problematic part of the plant, PictureThis can instantly give you more data about what the problem is and what you need to do to correct it.

But the best part of all is that the PictureThis database is always growing. More entries are being added all the time, so this is one iPhone app that is only going to get more valuable as time goes on.

PictureThis also gives you instant access to plant experts, right from your iPhone. You can use it to get gardening advice, to troubleshoot some of the issues you’re currently running into in and around your home and more.

Whether you’re trying to learn more about the plants you come across daily or you just want to brush up on your gardening skills, it certainly is an exciting app to have around. PictureThis is available in both the iTunes App Store and the Android App Store now.

PictureThis currently has a 7-day free trial, then you can subscribe if you like the app. The current subscription rate is listed when you download the app.

I appreciate your tips. It would be helpful if you would give the cost of the app.

I believe that you’re automatically enrolled unless you cancel. How do you cancel this?

OMG. I found out my rubber plant was actually a jade plant. It also told me what to do because it’s showing signs of watering problems!!! This is so exciting. Now I can find out what the plants are in my yard! I’m stoked. This is going to be fun!

I thought apps had to show cost. Apparently not. This is a Chinese company and it looks like it would be hard to cancel.

Pete, please indicate cost when promoting an app or product.

    Thanks.

That could be tricky. People who might be reading the information later could find a different price. This way, you are getting the price directly from the app.

I used this app for a while, and loved it, but canceled it when I found an app that does the same thing at no charge. It’s iNaturalist.
