How to Pay for Gas From Inside Your Car

By iPad Pete 2 Comments

Have you ever wished that you could pay for gas without actually going inside to the register? Well, not only can you now do that, you can take things one step further and pay without ever getting out of your car!

That’s right, there are a number of services that allow you to pay via an app without ever getting out – all of which are certainly worth a closer look.

Paying for Gas Without Leaving Your Car: An Overview

One of the most convenient ways to pay for gas without leaving your car – especially if you’re an iPhone owner – is through the magic of Google Pay.

Available as a free download in the iTunes App Store, Google Pay is essentially Google’s answer to Apple Pay. Because it’s also available on Android devices, however, you’re likely to find a lot more support for it out in the world as you go about your business.

Once you have the Google Pay app installed on your iPhone and you’re signed into your account, all you have to do is tap “Pay” the next time you’re at the pump. Choose the option labeled “Get Gas” and scroll through the list until you find the exact gas station that you’re located at.

Then, select your pump number and verify your account with either a password, with your fingerprint or with Face ID.

That’s it! You can now pump your gas and your Google Pay account will automatically be charged.

Of course, if you’re not the world’s biggest fan of handing Google over information like your credit cards, don’t worry – there are other services you can use. A lot of gas stations actually have their own first party payment applications that allow you to do largely the same thing.

So if you’re the kind of person who pretty much only goes to BP gas stations, just download their own app from the iTunes App Store before heading to the pump and you’ll be good to go. Exxon Mobile, Shell and Chevron also offer similar services.

You can also use Apple Pay at any pumps that support it – though you will have to leave your car for that one. Just double tap the button on the side of your iPhone, select the card you want to use, type in your password and you’ll make your payment without needing to actually touch the screen and keyboard at the pump itself.

Since you have to get out of your car to actually pump the gas, it seems much quicker to simply swipe your card at the pump.
