A recently leaked note to investors from Apple reveals that the tech giant could be releasing the new iPhone 13 series in September. This is likely to be true as September is the usual iPhone release month, with the exception of 2020’s October release under pandemic conditions.
Here’s what we know:
Size and models will not be changing because of the significant design and tech changes made to the iPhone 12 series but Apple will be reducing the size of the notch at the top of the phone and the camera set will have a larger footprint on the Pro and Pro Max models.
Significant changes are being made to the camera and associated features that will help professional photographers and videographers like the ProMotion display, ProRes video format, and upgrades to the Ultra-Wide camera lens but there’s plenty to be excited about for everyday users too like improved low-light performance and improved stabilization that will reduce camera shake.
There is also an anticipated “Cinematic Video” that will blur the background of the video and focus on the person or people in the foreground. I am excited about that one!
Performance is where you will see more improvements in the iPhone 13. A larger battery and faster charging will make everyone happy.
The larger battery is made possible by some space-saving designs to eliminate needing to change the size or width of the iPhones. And faster charging will be possible by using 25-watt power adapters that were not supported in the iPhone 12 series.
Here’s what could happen, but not likely:
Many analysts are still convinced that the Pro Max will release with 1TB storage but there is nothing to back those claims. And with the recent large storage upgrades made in the last release 1TB seems far-fetched but would be welcome with the large video and photo files that will be in use.
There could be an always-on display feature similar to the Apple Watch display. Notifications will display but the screen will not fully light up. And the LiDAR scanner that is available on the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max could expand to all models.
Another rumor that sounds more like wishful thinking is that the top models of the iPhone 13 series could feature reverse wireless charging. That means your iPhone could charge other devices wirelessly. This seems very unlikely, but the larger battery gives much cause to hope.
As always with Apple and their iPhone releases, we won’t know ‘til we know. I am excited to see what my iPhone future holds.

Excited for the new model as I was just about to purchase I phone 12 max. Glad to know. I’m waiting.
Can you still buy the iPhone 12 max pro
Yes, you can! Apple may reduce the price of the older models with the release of the 13 series.
I just purchased the 12 max pro, I love it, the fact that the 13 is not going to have the touch means a lot to me, I love the touch screen!
