I’m always using Siri to do things for me. But one thing that’s really frustrating is when Siri cuts me off in the middle of a sentence. It’s like she doesn’t think I’m done talking!
So I was really happy to find out that in iOS 16, you can change Siri’s pause time to avoid interruption.
Now, I can choose the delay I prefer – Default, Longer or Longest. The default pause time is about three seconds, but I usually go for the Longest setting, which adds a second for a maximum delay of about five seconds. This way, Siri doesn’t interrupt me mid-sentence, and I can get my commands across without any frustration.
If you’re also frustrated with Siri interrupting you, I would definitely recommend changing the Siri pause time in your Settings app. It’s a small change, but it makes a big difference!
Here’s how to adjust Siri’s Pause Time:
1. Open your Settings app
2. Tap on Accessibility

3. In the General section, tap on Siri
4. Under Siri Pause Time, you can select your delay time. You can choose between Default, Longer or Longest.

On the default setting, Siri will react to your command after about 3 seconds of silence. The Longer setting will wait 4 seconds. And the Longest selections will wait 5 seconds.
On this settings page, you can also turn on Always Listen for “Hey Siri,”. With this setting, Siri will be available even if your iPhone is in your pocket or purse or if it’s face down on your desk.
Turning on Announce Notifications on Speaker will force Siri to speak all of your notifications.
And finally, the Call Hangup setting will make it so you can tell Siri to hang up your phone call. The person you’re talking on the phone with will hear you tell Siri to hang up the call. Which I think might sound a bit rude.
I hope this tip was helpful for you! Changing Siri’s pause time is a small change that can make a big difference in your user experience. So if you’re frustrated with Siri interrupting you, be sure to try out this setting.
Always good info
