Line Breaks – The Space You Need in Social Media

By iPad Pete 1 Comment

Social Media is already a big part of our everyday life and one way to make your content stand out is to de-clutter your text. It helps people read your content better and Line Breaks is a great tool to do just that.

Simply put, line breaks are blank spaces in between several lines of text. This is similar to how you would separate paragraphs when you are writing anything from letters to essays or even reports. How would you feel if you were made to read a document without spaces in the middle of paragraphs?

“TL;DR” or “TLDR” is a common acronym used on the internet that means “Too Long, Didn’t Read”. This is used to express that a digital text (article, emails, etc.) is too long to read.

A lot of times, we also see it in Social Medial posts where users express their thoughts at length and without line breaks.

Benefits of Line Breaks

As simple as it sounds, there are benefits to putting line breaks when you are using social media. It could be for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or even TikTok.

  • De-clutters your copy – as mentioned earlier, it helps your viewers read your copy better
  • Separate different thoughts – if you want to start talking about another idea, a line break can help separate your paragraphs.
  • Inviting to read – a well-spaced copy with line breaks helps your audience read and comprehend your content better.

Steps to add Line Breaks in your social media copy

One of the reasons people don’t do it is for some social media platforms, it is not a default action you can do. You need to go into your keypad and look for it. Here is a simple 2-step process on how you can put a line break in the text.

Step 1: Go to your social media account and start putting in the text. You then have to press the “123” in your keypad located at the lower left of your screen

Step 2: Once you are there, you will notice you now have the “return” option on your keypad. Simply press that two times to put a line break in your text.

That’s it! Isn’t it pretty straightforward? Keep in mind though that social media platforms and some iPhone keypads might already display the “return” option even without having to press the “123” at the beginning. So look out for that as well.

Go ahead and try it now so you can start making “clutter-free” content in no time!
