Let’s Put a Pin in That Message

By iPad Pete 6 Comments

If you’re like me, you only text a few people consistently but you get messages all day, every day. Locating the message you want to reply to might not be so easy when it’s surrounded by a sea of reminders, surveys, and other messages. Worse, you might reply to the wrong person.

Keep track of your important messages easier by using the pin feature new with iOS14. This allows you to keep the contacts you contact the most at the top of your messages for quick and easy access. You can also unpin contacts too so you can easily remove the group chat planning Sara’s birthday party after the big day.

There are two different ways you can pin a message. The first is great if you want to pin multiple messages at once. Excellent option for your first set up or to edit multiple pins at once. The second option is best when you have just one message you want to pin.

Method 1

Step 1. Open your Messages app.

Step 2. Open the Edit menu by tapping the three dots in the top right corner.

Step 3. Select “Edit Pins.”

Step 4. Tap the pin icon next to the message you want to pin.

Method 2

Step 1. Open your Messages app.

Step 2. Locate the message you want to pin and long press.

Step 3. From the pop-up menu select “Pin Message.”

Pinned messages will show as large icons at the top of your Messages app making it easy to see which contact you are choosing and messaging. Messages from pinned contacts will show as a message bubble over the icon.

Unpin a Message

You can have up to nine pins at once but if you need to make space for a new priority contact, unpinning is just as easy.

For Method 1, follow the same steps above and choose the “minus” icon to remove a pin.

For Method 2, follow the same steps above and choose “unpin” from the pop-up menu.

This is a simple way to organize and prioritize your messages and can be especially helpful if you are running your business from your iPhone by keeping priority contacts from getting lost. The change in icons also makes the Messages app look a little more dynamic as well. Overall, this is one of my favorite features on iOS14. Comment your favorite below!

The methods are the same as long as you have iOS 14 on your iPad. If you’re on iOS 13, that feature isn’t available.
