iPhone’s Increased Prices: Is It Still Worth It?

By iPad Pete 1 Comment

iPhone Price Have Gone Up 80% Since 2007

Apple revolutionized the smartphone industry when it launched the iPhone in 2007. That first iPhone made people fall in love with gadgets even more as it gave people a technology that’s seemingly ahead of its time. The feel of the iPhone in your hand was like magic where you swipe and tap away to call and send messages to your friends.

But the price of the iPhone over the years was also some sort of magic – it has gone up 80% in the last 14 years!

This means that on average, the iPhone costs about $400 more if you buy in now versus when it came out in 2007. That is at least the average in all 38 countries where the iPhone is available in the market.

This might sound surprising and unbelievable! But hold your horses! If you come to think about it, your iPhone could simply be worth it. If you want to quantify that increase, here are a few things you might want to look into.

  • Tech upgrades – one of the biggest reasons why people look forward to getting their hands on the latest iPhone model is the tech that comes with each release. They may not always be the first but that never bothered Apple one bit. The tech upgrades that come with each new iteration of the iPhone are always a sight to behold and use.
  • Apple ecosystem – If you have been using Apple products for years now, having an iPhone makes a lot of sense. It blends in perfectly with the whole Apple ecosystem like using an iMac, iPad, and especially when you are wearing an iWatch. The handoff from one system to another makes it easy to pick up where you left off regardless of what device you are using.
  • Inflation – You need to factor in also that over the course of time, inflation also sets in. The baseline cost of products in the past will not be priced the same if it was sold today. With the inflation cost, production costs will go up as well. The same survey that showed how the iPhone prices went up to almost $400 also clarified that if inflation and purchasing power are factored over 14 years, a real-world increase is only about $154.

There is no denying the fact that the iPhone is a leader in its category and all the bells and whistles behind every unit are produced by some of the top minds on the planet. This makes it a premium phone which is why pricing for each unit is relatively higher than competitors.
