Apple is planning on manufacturing the iPhone 12 solely in India by mid-2021.
Trial production has already begun, and the India Factory has started hiring over 10,000 new workers to make the iPhone 12.
In the past, Apple has used India to only produce it’s lower-cost and older models. This will be the first time the current high-end iPhone model will be manufactured in India.
One factory in India will be making the iPhone 12. And another factory will be producing the new version of the iPhone SE.
Apple is trying to diversify its supply chain and move away from China.
Several suppliers of iPhone parts will be following Apple’s lead and also set up factories in India.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi created the recent “Made in India” initiative. This initiative requires 30% of products sold in India by foreign companies to be made in India.
India has leverage since it is the second-largest consumer of Mobile Phones in the World. Second only to the U.S.
Hmmm… maybe the U.S. needs the “Made in the U.S.A.” initiative requiring a percentage of Apple’s products to be manufactured in the US.
Anyone have the phone number for the Whitehouse? I bet they answer on an iPhone 🙂
Maybe Americans need to quit buying iPhone unless they are made in America. They need to support American jobs FIRST ‼️‼️‼️
Denise Andrews says
I will not be buying any phone made in China or India. Make it in the USA. Haven’t you learned anything from this past year? Denise Andrews
Good point! And I agree 100%
Philip Hartley says
As I was reading this information I thought the same thing, they need to pay an American 15.00 an hour and still sell the phone for 1200.00, as in the past. The 30% rule sounds great.
Janet Conner says
KEEP THE IPHONE IN THE USA! KEEP APPLE JOBS IN THE USA!
Makes me sorry these jobs aren’t in the U.S. come on, Apple.
APPLE was created in an American garage & should’ve stayed in America. Maybe we could purchase “Made in America” APPLE Products only.
Joyce Mellentine says
Although I may not be able to see the big picture, I hate to see Apple making this decision. I do believe in diversification, but are we really ready for this?
Jane Taylor says
I agree with making the iPhone, and all Apple products in the USA.
WAKE UP APPLE!
Maria Varrichione says
Great idea. Start a petition!
Love this idea! We need this AND MANY OTHER “made in America” initiatives to happen!
Linda Potter says
Yes, iPhones need to be made in USA.
I am shocked and totally disappointed in APPLE … if this is true, I will NEVER BUY ANOTHER APPLE anything. Thank you for this information… I know you will keep us advised!
J Ellis says
Why do we have to out-source everything? If we are such a powerhouse nation, make it in the USA. We sure could use those jobs here.
Pete, you are always “right on”!
Wish we had a voice………
What’s wrong with making it in America?????
Wow. I’m sorry to know that. We definitely need more “Made in The USA” Products especially Apple’s.
John Vernali says
MAKE IN USA
paul stone says
It’s too bad the new factory isn’t being built in the U.S.A. and we could put 10,000 Americans to work.
Bi S says
That is a GREAT f—king idea.
Loooooong over due.
Hay Trump are you listening?
I agree with the last comment about Apple making their products in America. Made in the USA used to be a plus point…why not make it so again? America needs to regain its economic structure & strength – let’s get back to that concept instead of basing everything on the almighty dollar. Whadyah say, Apple?
LaQuita Fay Derise says
I really hadn’t paid attention and had no idea iPhones were made in India. I will check more closely when I update my iPhone 11 Pro Max. The next phone I get better be made in the USA. If not, I’ll just stick with the one I’ve got it was probably made overseas.
Hiromi Bashore says
This was very informative. Thank you. Yes, the U.S. definitely needs to have “Made in the U.S.A.” initiative.
MARSHA KEYS says
Totally agree with you Pete
Nancy Thompson says
This news discourages me from buying the iPhone 12 when it comes out.
Roberta anderson says
Definitely some made in the USA phones. No reason to outsource on this stuff. Put our own people back to work
Richard Brehm says
Tim Cook. Get ready to make Apple products sold in USA to be at least 50% USA parts or pay tariffs. Whadda ya think,Timmy?
India will become what we let China do to us.
Cynthia Filipek says
USA! USA! USA!
Give those 10000. Jobs to Americans!
We were on the way to having more things made in America while Trump was president. America was becoming great again. Not now. Nothing will be made in America.
