iPhone 12… Made in India?!

By iPad Pete 34 Comments

Apple is planning on manufacturing the iPhone 12 solely in India by mid-2021.

Trial production has already begun, and the India Factory has started hiring over 10,000 new workers to make the iPhone 12.

In the past, Apple has used India to only produce it’s lower-cost and older models. This will be the first time the current high-end iPhone model will be manufactured in India.

One factory in India will be making the iPhone 12. And another factory will be producing the new version of the iPhone SE.

Apple is trying to diversify its supply chain and move away from China.

Several suppliers of iPhone parts will be following Apple’s lead and also set up factories in India.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi created the recent “Made in India” initiative. This initiative requires 30% of products sold in India by foreign companies to be made in India.

India has leverage since it is the second-largest consumer of Mobile Phones in the World. Second only to the U.S.

Hmmm… maybe the U.S. needs the “Made in the U.S.A.” initiative requiring a percentage of Apple’s products to be manufactured in the US.

Anyone have the phone number for the Whitehouse? I bet they answer on an iPhone 🙂

Maybe Americans need to quit buying iPhone unless they are made in America. They need to support American jobs FIRST ‼️‼️‼️

As I was reading this information I thought the same thing, they need to pay an American 15.00 an hour and still sell the phone for 1200.00, as in the past. The 30% rule sounds great.

APPLE was created in an American garage & should’ve stayed in America. Maybe we could purchase “Made in America” APPLE Products only.

Although I may not be able to see the big picture, I hate to see Apple making this decision. I do believe in diversification, but are we really ready for this?

Why do we have to out-source everything? If we are such a powerhouse nation, make it in the USA. We sure could use those jobs here.

I agree with the last comment about Apple making their products in America. Made in the USA used to be a plus point…why not make it so again? America needs to regain its economic structure & strength – let’s get back to that concept instead of basing everything on the almighty dollar. Whadyah say, Apple?

I really hadn’t paid attention and had no idea iPhones were made in India. I will check more closely when I update my iPhone 11 Pro Max. The next phone I get better be made in the USA. If not, I’ll just stick with the one I’ve got it was probably made overseas.
