Achieve Your Goals Using Your Health App

By iPad Pete Leave a Comment

Health goals can be hard to maintain but Apple is here to help. Explore all the features of the Health app and take steps to a healthier you!

In this app, you can share Health data and notifications with doctors and caregivers or others that require this important information. Track and share your progress with Trends, a new analysis of how you are progressing in your chosen goals.

You can also store test results and immunizations in the app for easy access. If you are diabetic, your iPhone can link to your monitor and track your glucose levels while you sleep. The Health app will even assess your risk of falling with the new Walking Steadiness feature.

Let’s explore these new features and how to use them.

View Health Data

Sometimes a picture, or a graph, is worth a thousand words. You can view and customize your Health data in many ways through the app.

Step 1. Open the Health app.

Step 2. If the app doesn’t open to the Summary page, tap “Summary” in the bottom left corner. From here you can scroll down to see Highlights. You can view additional data on a Highlight by tapping the graph.

Step 3. To customize the Highlights in the Summary tap “Edit” under your profile picture, tap a category to turn it off or on (solid blue star is on), then tap “Done” to save your changes.

Step 4.  If you don’t want to scroll through the Highlights, tap “Browse” on the bottom right to select a category to view the data. Scroll or search to find the category you want.

Step 5. Tap a category to customize it. The data you can add will vary depending on the category. And some will allow you to manually add data, just look for the “Add Data” option on the top right of the screen.

Delete Health Data

New Year, New You. You can clear all the data in a category if you want to start a new trend.

Step 1. Tap “Browse” in the bottom right and select the category you want to edit.

Step 2. Scroll to the bottom and select “Show All Data.”

Step 3. Select “Edit” from the top right corner.

Step 4. Choose specific records to delete or select “Delete All” in the top left corner.

Step 5. Tap “Done” to save your changes.

Share Health Data

Whether it’s a caregiver, a doctor, or someone important to you there are many reasons you might need to share your Health records and doing so is easy.

Step 1. Open the Health app.

Step 2. Tap “Sharing” at the bottom of the screen.

Step 3. Next choose one of the following:

To share for the first time: Tap “Share with Someone” or “Share with Doctor.”

To share with an additional contact or provider: Tap “Add another person.”

Step 4. The next page will allow you to select or search for someone in your contact list. If you are sharing with a healthcare provider, choose from the populated list or use Search to locate your provider.

Step 5. For sharing with a contact: Tap “See Suggested Topic” or “Set Up Manually.”

For sharing with a healthcare provider: Tap “Connect to Account,” enter the username and password you use for the patient web portal for that account, then follow the onscreen instructions.

Step 6. Choose topics to share. Tap “Next” to move through the topic screens.

Step 7. Tap “Share,” then tap “Done.” You will receive a notification when your invitation is accepted.

You can review, change or stop sharing data by simply tapping “Sharing” in the Health app and making any desired changes.

Share Health and Fitness Data

You can allow other apps you use to share data with the Health app too. Here’s how:

Step 1. Open the Health app.

Step 2. Tap on your profile picture or initials at the top right.

Step 3. Next tap “Apps or Devices.” (This may just say “Apps” if you have no devices connected.) This will show all the apps that have requested access to your Health data.

Step 4. Tap the app you want to edit and make any changes you want. You can also delete data from here.

You can also export all the data into an XML file, like an Excel spreadsheet. Follow Steps 1 and 2 above and then tap “Export all Health Data” and choose your format.

Walking Steadiness

Falling is a very real danger to many and the Walking Steadiness feature helps assess your balance, strength, and gait. The app will even alert you when your mobility becomes low and show you exercises to improve your steadiness.

Step 1. Tap “Browse” to be able to select the “Mobility” category.

Step 2. Tap “Set Up” if this is your first time using the feature. Follow the onscreen instructions. There will be options to turn on notifications and add to favorites.

Step 3. After set up is complete you will be able to scroll down and tap “Walking Steadiness” to view the data at any time.

You can scroll down the page to find exercises and apps that can help you improve your steadiness!
