How to Set Up or Change Your Voicemail Greeting

By iPad Pete 2 Comments

Have you ever called someone and get put through to voicemail only to get the; “The person you are calling does not have a voicemail box set up,” and wondered if you dialed the right number? Ever wonder if that “someone” could be you?

It’s easy to forget in the excitement of a new phone that there are some mundane tasks to be performed, like setting up your voicemail. Or maybe it seems that everything on the iPhone is so intuitive that voicemail is just ready to go.

However it comes about, you need to set up your voicemail and let everyone who calls know they have reached the right person. Follow these steps below to set up your voicemail for the first time.

Step 1. Open your Phone app.

Step 2. Tap the voicemail icon on the bottom right.

Step 3. If this is your first time setting up your voicemail, you will get a “Set Up Now” screen.

Step 4. Tap the “Set Up Now” button and when prompted create a password for your voicemail. You will need to reenter to confirm, then hit “Done.”

Step 5. Next you can select “Default” for the standard message or select “Custom” to record your own.

Step 6. If you select the “Default” message, skip to Step 9 to finish. If you want to make a custom message, tap “Record”, and start your greeting.

Step 7. When you are done recording press “Stop.”

Step 8. Select “Play” to hear your message.

Step 9. If you like it, press “Save” in the top right corner. If you don’t like it, tap “Record” and try again.

You now have voicemail! Congratulations!

If you want to change your greeting the steps are very similar.

Step 1. Open your Phone app.

Step 2. Press “Greeting” in the top right corner.

Follow Steps 5 – 9 above to change your voicemail greeting.

You can change your voicemail to reflect events in your life or update it with a special holiday message. It is so easy to change you can update it for the day of the week! (If you keep track of things like that.)

Voicemail may not be the messaging powerhouse it once was but a nice, clear greeting telling the caller they can text you can change lives.
