How to Hide Photos on Your iPhone

By iPad Pete 17 Comments

One of the truly great things about the iPhone is that it has one of the best – and most powerful – cameras available on the market today. Now, anyone can be an amateur photographer and capture the memories of a lifetime in stunning detail at a moment’s notice.

Having said that, there are likely some photos that you don’t necessarily want to delete, but you don’t want other people to be able to see them, either. Luckily, iOS makes this possible by way of an innovative “Hide” feature that you can use in a matter of seconds.

Here’s what you need to do to hide photos on your iPhone right away.

1. Open the “Photos” app on your iPhone.

2. Scroll through your camera roll until you find the photo you want to hide. Tap on it once to select it.

3. Tap the “Square” icon on the lower left side of the screen.

4. Select the option on screen labeled “Hide.”

That’s it! The photo in question will still be on your iPhone, but you won’t be able to see it in the camera roll. Instead, you can view it (along with any other photos hidden through this method) via the “Hidden” album in the “Photos” app.

What I did was to go into your photo app where you have all your pics showing, tap on the pic you want hidden (you will only see that one pic) then on the bottom left tap on the square with the arrow, slide down to see hide photo.
To see it if you want to, go to your photo app and click on albums. You will see the picture in that album. Hope this helps.

Great Tip!! After you choose “hide” there’s a message that tells you where to find your hidden pictures.
I had surgery for cancer and needed to send my doctor some pictures. I didn’t want to delete them as they are a medical record but didn’t really want others to see them if they were looking at some other photos on my phone. Perfect solution. Thanks!

On my phone, the selections list didn’t have this appearance or choices. After searching, however, I did find a “Hidden” folder, going to Albums, and scrolling to near end, under utilities.

For me, a bit of clarification would have helped. You state: 3. Tap the “Square” icon on the lower left side of the screen. it would have helped to say “TAP THE SQUARE WITH THE ARROW.” Thanks for all your wonderful tips.

After I have created albums, the photos still remain in the library. Is ther a way to have the photos in an album but not the library?
