Cord-cutting has become increasingly popular in recent years, as more and more people are looking for ways to save money.
One of the easiest ways to do this is by getting rid of your cable or satellite bill.
That’s right. You can get free TV without having to pay a monthly fee.
Or, maybe you don’t want to cancel your favorite streaming services altogether. Perhaps you want to add some free alternatives to broaden your TV-viewing options.
So, if you’re ready to get some free TV, read on for more information.
Getting the Right Antenna
The first thing you’ll need is the right antenna.
There are three basic antenna types to choose from, unamplified, amplified, or large outdoor antenna.
An unamplified antenna might work just fine if you live in a city or suburb. But if you live in a small town or rural area, you’ll probably need an amplified antenna.
And finally, if you want to get the most channels possible, you’ll need a large outdoor antenna. These can be pricey, but they’re worth the investment if you want to get the most channels possible.
Once you decide which type of antenna you need, Head to Amazon to see their current recommendations.
How to Find Your TV Schedule
Now that you have your antenna, it’s time to look for TV listings. The easiest way to do this is by using Zap2It.com.
Zap2It is a free online guide that will help you find local TV listings by provider or time zone. It’s super easy to use.
When you visit Zap2It, you’ll see a grid of channels and viewing times. Adjust your grid preferences to change your provider or time zone to match your location.
Go forward or backward in the schedule by pressing the arrows on the left and right. And use the dropdown if you want to jump to a different day.
You can create an account if you want to save your favorite shows for easy access later.
How to Record Your Favorite Shows
The one drawback to free over-the-air TV is that it’s not on demand. Unlike your on-demand streaming services, you’ll have to plan in advance to record the shows you’ll want to watch later.
To record TV to watch later, you’ll need an Over-the-Air DVR (Digital Video Recorder).
An over-the-air DVR is similar to cable and satellite DVRs. It will let you pause, rewind, and record live television using your newly acquired antenna.
You’ll be able to save TV programs for future viewing, but without the expensive cable or satellite subscription.
Here’s a link to Amazon’s Over-the-Air DVRs that don’t require a subscription.

We cut the cable years ago. It was a great decision. Our smart TV works well with Netflix. Tablo without the subscription records all of our favorite programs. We have saved many thousands of dollars since cutting the only cable offered in our area. Mohu Leaf antennas hide behind our TVs. I am not a “techy” but managed the setup without help.
