How to Change Your iPhone Ringtone (And More)

By iPad Pete 4 Comments

Have you ever heard someone else’s iPhone ring, and you just had to check to see if someone was calling your iPhone?

The good news is, you can easily change your default ringtone, and even the tones used for texts and alerts.

Or even better… assign a unique ringtone for specific contacts. Then you’ll know who’s calling without even opening your iPhone.

To change your iPhone’s Ringtone…

1. Open the “Settings” app on your iPhone.

2. Scroll through the list of settings and tap on “Sounds & Haptics.”

3. Scroll down to the section labeled “Sound and Vibration Patterns.” Here, you’ll see the option to change a variety of different alerts including your ringtone, your text tone, the sound your iPhone makes when you get an AirDrop delivery and more. Choose the option labeled “Ringtone.”

4. Scroll through the list of ringtones on the screen until you find the one you’d like to use. Just tap on one to hear it play. The currently selected ringtone will always be marked with a check.

That’s it! When you’re done, all you have to do is exit the “Settings” app and that new ringtone will play whenever you get a call.

Note that you can also use the same steps to change any of the other alert sounds mentioned above.

You can also choose to add specific ringtones for friends and family members if you want.

This may be helpful if you always want to know immediately when one particular person calls. You could just give them their own custom ringtone, that way they have their own unique sound that will play whenever they call or text you!

To change a ringtone for a specific contact…

Open your Contacts App > Select a Contact > Tap Edit > Tap Ringtone > Pick a Ringtone for that Contact

when my iphone rings it doesn’t always have the DECLINE option available, only ANSWER. How do I decline the call so it will quit ringing? I’d like to have both options show up each time. It will show both on my iPad.

Press the volume up or down button. The call will stop ringing but the caller continuously hear the ring. They don’t know you declined their call.
