How to Block Texts from Strangers on Your iPhone

By iPad Pete 31 Comments

Getting texts from strangers or suspicious numbers on an iPhone is more than just a mild inconvenience.

Depending on their nature, they may very well be phishing attacks hiding in plain sight – which is why you should never click on any link in a message from someone you don’t recognize.

Thankfully, Apple has made it easier than ever to block texts from strangers on your iPhone so that this is the type of thing you never have to worry about again.

Here’s how you can block texts from strangers on your own iPhone in just a couple of seconds!

1. Open the “Settings” app on your iPhone.

2. Scroll through the menu and select the option labeled “Messages.”

3. Scroll until you find the option labeled “Filter Unknown Senders” in the portion of the screen labeled “Message Filtering.” Tap once on it to turn it on.

That’s it! Now, your iPhone won’t alert you to any messages from strangers that aren’t already in your “Contact” list.

A note, however – you should absolutely add all numbers that you’re familiar with to your “Contact” list as soon as they come in so you don’t miss anything important in the future.
