With the release of iOS 14, Apple has introduced a new feature that allows you to add your driver’s license or state ID to your Apple Wallet.
This is a convenient way to have your ID with you at all times without having to worry about losing it or having it stolen.
In this blog post, we’ll discuss the benefits of adding your ID to your phone, how to add your ID or driver’s license to your phone, and some of the risks associated with using a digital ID.
Benefits of Adding Your Driver’s License or State ID to Your Phone
There are several benefits of adding your driver’s license or state ID to your Apple Wallet. First, it can save you time when going through airport security or entering a bar. Instead of having to dig through your wallet or purse to find your ID, you can simply pull out your phone and scan it.
Second, it can help you avoid losing your ID. If you’ve ever misplaced your wallet or purse, you know how difficult it can be to find them. However, if you have your ID stored on your phone, you can easily track it down by using the “Find my iPhone” feature.
Finally, having your ID on your phone can help prevent identity theft. If you lose your wallet or purse and someone finds it, they will have access to all of your personal information. However, if you have your ID stored on your phone and someone tries to access it, they will be prompted for your passcode.
How to Add Your Driver’s License or State ID to Your Phone
1. Open Settings

2. Tap Wallet & Apple Pay.

3. Tap Add Card under Payment Cards

4. Tap Driver’s License or State ID

5. Choose your State.

6. Tap Continue

7. Scan the front and back of your ID.

8. Verify your identity with a selfie.
9. Send it to your state for approval.
Currently, Arizona, Colorado, and Maryland allow you to add your driver’s license or state ID to your Apple Wallet.
But even if your State doesn’t officially approve your Licence, it can still be convenient to have your License on your iPhone as a backup. Just be sure to continue to carry your physical copy of your License until your State officially approves the digital version.
Apple is currently working with more States to allow licenses to be carried on your iPhone.
Risks Associated With Using a Digital ID
While there are many benefits of using a digital ID, there are also some risks that should be considered.
First, if you lose your phone, someone will have access to your personal information. To mitigate this risk, we recommend setting up a passcode for your phone and enabling the “Find my iPhone” feature.
Second, there are some situations where a physical ID is still required (e.g., renting a car). We recommend keeping a physical copy of your ID in a safe place so that you always have it available when needed.
Wrapping It Up
Adding your driver’s license or state ID to your Apple Wallet can be a convenient way to have access to your ID at all times.
However, it is important to consider the risks associated with using digital IDs and take steps to mitigate those risks.
Be sure to weigh the risks and benefits before deciding whether storing yours on your device is the right option for you.

Does not work for California as back must be scanned for state approval
Tried to scan as an ID since our state doesn’t use this form of license info yet. Couldn’t do so can’t get it on my phone. Only allows scan if you are 1 of the 4 states.
Only works on a few states. Pretty much useless to most people.
