Find your keys and more with Apple AirTags

By iPad Pete 4 Comments

Lose your keys again? Left your purse or wallet somewhere while you were out running errands? Keep track of your most lost, and valuable, possessions with Apple AirTags. Slip one into your purse or attach one to your keychain using one of the AirTag accessories available through Apple.

These handy little trackers will save you from retracing your steps by telling you exactly where your missing item is. Once you make the initial connection you can track any tagged item with the “Find My” app on your iPhone. In just a few steps you can have the peace of mind of knowing your stuff is safe.

Before you can connect the device make sure you have the “Find My” app open. Check your “Settings” menu to make sure Bluetooth is on. And that you “Location Services” enabled.

Here’s how to get started:

Step 1. Connect the AirTag.

Just by holding the AirTag near your iPhone will bring up the connect screen.

Step 2. Tap Connect

Step 3. Choose a name from the preset list or scroll to the bottom and create a “Custom Name.”

Note: If you create a custom name – enter the name and then press continue.

Step 4. Select an emoji for the item and press continue.

Step 5. You will be asked to register your device. Just select continue and it will register with your Apple ID.

Step 6. The device is connected, and you can see its location by selecting “View in Find My App” or select “Done” and repeat for your next AirTag.

Once you have all your items tagged you can locate them all together by opening the “Find My” app. This will verify that all your gadgets are in their proper places. For now, at least.

Want to find something? Open “Find My” and select the wayward item to track it down. Or simply ask Siri to find your keys and a sound will play to let you know where you set them down.

And don’t worry if you’re not close to your jacket that was left on the chair at the restaurant. What was the name of that place? The Bluetooth signal from the AirTag is relayed through the entire “Find My” network. That’s nearly a billion devices working to help you find it. Now that’s teamwork!

With features like “Lost Mode,” compatibility with the iPhone accessibility features, and the “Find My” network accessory program, AirTags are sure to be your new best friend.
