Elon Musk has been making headlines recently for an impressive feat he has achieved, though it is not one that anyone would expect from the renowned business magnate and tech entrepreneur.
He has set a world record – although this one isn’t something to be celebrated.
The Guinness World Record for the greatest loss of personal wealth in history has now been beaten by Elon Musk.
Since November 2021, the business tycoon has reportedly lost $182 billion.
Japanese tech investor Masayoshi Son held the previous record of $58.6 billion in losses, after the dot-com disaster.
Most of Musk’s money is in Tesla stock. But the value of Tesla stock dropped 65% after he bought Twitter in October. Musk sold $7 billion of Tesla shares before he acquired Twitter in 2022.
Musk is losing not only money but also his status as the world’s richest person.
Bernard Arnaul, 73 years old, is now the world’s richest person. He owns LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy), which makes luxury goods. His net worth is $205.5 billion, according to Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires rankings.
Musk, who is 51 years old, has a fortune of $146.8 billion. This puts him in second place, just ahead of Gautam Adani ($127.9 billion), Jeff Bezos ($118.5 billion), and Warren Buffett ($110.8 billion).
Despite Elon Musk’s record-breaking loss, it is likely that he will come back from this.
And hey, being the second richest person in the world isn’t anything to hang your head over.
