Easily Transfer Data From Your Old iPhone

By iPad Pete 6 Comments

For Apple fans everywhere, one of the most exciting days of the year is when they finally get the new iPhone model in their hands.

It happened again in the fall of 2020, when the iPhone 12 line finally launched.

You get better hardware, a new camera, the whole nine yards – and suddenly, you’re walking around with yet another powerful device in your pocket to let you handle your digital life wherever you go.

At the same time, you still need to get the data from your old iPhone to your new one – something that isn’t necessarily the easiest process out there.

Apple has included a number of features designed to make this process as straightforward as possible, however. There are a few options available for you to choose from depending on your needs.

Transferring Data From One iPhone to Another

While there are several ways of transferring data of your Apple account across devices, here are the Top 2 easiest methods.

1. Using iCloud

By far, the simplest way to transfer data from one iPhone to another is by using iCloud.

Start by backing up your data from your old iPhone, and store it in iCloud.

Then, as you start to set up your brand-new iPhone, you’ll go through an initial configuration process where you specify what settings you’d like to use.

Once you reach the Apps & Data screen, Apple will ask you if you want to transfer data from your old device to your new one by way of an iCloud backup. Choose “Restore from iCloud Backup”.

You will then be asked to login, and select the back up versions you have saved. Select the most recent one, and your phone will download the most recently available backup from your old one to your new one. So long as you’re on Wi-Fi, this process will only take a few minutes.

Keep in mind, however, that you only get 5GB of iCloud storage for free. So unless you’ve upgraded to a higher tier, or you only want to transfer some basic settings, this may not be enough to get the job done.

2. Using Quick Start

This is the best method of transferring data between your iPhones.

During the initial setup process, you’ll also be able to use “Quick Start” – Apple’s new method of transferring data that has made its debut in the last few years.

All you have to do is hold your iPhone physically close to your new one and select “Quick Start” during the initial setup process.

At that point, your old iPhone will transfer all of its data over to your new one via Bluetooth. You will need Wi-fi connection to download the apps in your new iPhone.

Just keep in mind that because of the sheer volume of data being transferred, this isn’t likely to be a quick process. It may take 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much information you’re working with.
