Downloading Apps Into the App Library

By iPad Pete Leave a Comment

In past versions of iOS, you really didn’t have a choice as to where new apps were downloaded. They all ended up in the exact same place – on your home screen.

Now, in an effort to streamline the experience of using your iPhone, Apple has made it possible to actually change where apps get downloaded on a device.

Here are the steps that you can use to change where new apps get downloaded automatically.

1. Start on your Home Screen and navigate to the “Settings” icon, the same way you would if you were connecting to Wi-Fi or making other adjustments.

2. Scroll through the list and select the option labeled “Home Screen.”

3. Select where you want your newly downloaded apps to go. You can choose to add them to the home screen the same way iOS has always worked, or you can choose to add them to the App Library only.

4. Choose whether or not you want notification badges to show in the App Library.

If toggled, this means that any notifications that would reside on an app icon – like the total number of emails in your inbox, for example – will be visible in the App Library, too.

If you don’t select this option, notification badges will only appear on those apps that are still on your home screen.

That’s it! The best part of all is that iOS will remember these settings so you don’t have to repeat them in the future.
