One of the more defining characteristics of Apple devices is their durability and toughness from everyday wear and tear. But like everything else, the devices will break down over time. A lot of factors come into play such as how you use the device, how old the gadget is, and even how careful you are as a consumer of your Apple device.
Regardless of the reason, your devices will break down sooner or later and this includes your Apple gadgets. And if this happens, your repair options were quite limited when it comes to Apple. You have to bring it back to Apple for repair. Though challenging at times, it also worked to the company’s advantage. They were able to make sure that only quality parts and service were given to their gadgets. Well, that is until now.
Self Service Repair
In a landmark move, Apple introduced the “Self Service Repair” program which is set to launch in the early parts of 2022. This comes at the heels of reports where people believe Apple May Ruin Local Repair Shops with a patented “pairing software” when replacing a broken screen for the Face ID to function. Though Apple did issue a statement saying that they will release an iOS update to address this issue with 3rd party iPhone screen repairs.
But imagine being able to replace your broken screens, replace your battery, and perform other repairs for your Apple devices in the comfort of your own home? That is now a lot closer to reality because this new program by Apple will give customers the access to purchase genuine Apple parts and even tools to do the repairs themselves.
Apple devices you can repair on your own
With the rollout of the program expected to take off by early 2022, Apple will begin to offer genuine parts and tools for iPhone 12 and 13 as well as Macs running on M1 chips. The program rollout will first be implemented in the US and slowly ripple out to other countries.
For these devices, parts, and tools that will be initially available can be used to address battery, display, and even camera repairs for iPhone 12 and 13 units. But additional repair options will be made available in the coming years.
This is a great move by one of the leading tech companies to help empower consumers when it comes to their devices. Of course, this appeals to Apple device owners who are a little more technically inclined when it comes to repairs. For a vast majority, there are Apple Service Centers to the rescue.
What this opens up is the ability of local repair shops to expand their services while still offering legitimate Apple parts to consumers. A lot more people might also be more inclined to tinker with older devices as soon as parts and tools become available.
