Apple has announced five new features with its next iPhone OS update, which will surely improve your device’s user experience.
From additional emoji and web push notifications to a new Beta Updates menu in the Settings app and updated Podcasts app, there’s something here for everyone.
Read on to learn more about these new additions that will be available soon when iOS 16.4 is released!
1) 31 New Emojis
Get ready to share even more emotion and personality with the newest iOS 16.4 update, which brings an array of new Unicode 15.0 emojis! You can now express yourself with a shaking face, three vibrant heart color options, an adorable donkey or moose – plus so much more!
2) Update to Podcasts App
The Podcasts app on the iPhone now has a Channels menu. It shows all the podcast channels in one list. The Up Next queue now includes episodes you saved to your Library and episodes you play from shows you don’t follow.
You can now use CarPlay to see the podcasts you most recently listened to and what you are going to listen to next. You can also get podcast suggestions in the Browse tab.
3) Web-Based Push Notifications
iOS 16.4 allows you to get notifications from websites on Safari on your iPhone. You can choose if you want these notifications or not. This feature lets you get notifications on Safari from websites, just like the notifications you get from apps in the App Store. Only websites you save to your Home Screen can ask if they can send you notifications.
4) New Home App Architecture
After updating to iOS 16.4, an update is offered through the Home app with improved architecture. Apple announced that its new architecture boosts the app’s performance, efficacy, and dependability while managing smart home appliances.
iOS 16.4 marks the return of Apple’s newly-redesigned Home app architecture, which had been launched with iOS 16.2 but was temporarily taken off the shelves due to technical glitches.
5) Beta Updates
iOS 16.4 has added a “Beta Updates” feature under General → Software Update in the Settings app – giving you access to beta versions of upcoming software.
Apple’s Developer Program members can use this menu to get beta versions of iOS without having to install any extra profiles from the Apple Developer website. It will make it easier to put the betas on their device. Additionally, you can enable public betas for iOS from this same menu.
With future iOS releases, Apple will only permit access to developer betas through their new menu. This measure is designed to stop individuals from using and sharing configuration profiles online.
Final Thoughts
iOS 16.4 is an upgrade that introduces a range of new features and updates to the iPhone, including 31 new emojis, web-based push notifications, a Beta Updates menu in the Settings app, an updated Podcasts app with Channels menus and CarPlay integration, and Apple’s redesigned Home app architecture.
