Do you find yourself losing your keys in the house regularly? Are you somebody who is constantly looking around for a lost item and you just can’t remember where you put them?
This is a common scenario that plays out regularly for so many of us, and you might find that a little outside help is needed. The good news is that you have some options to help you locate that missing item once and for all!
So what can you do if you want to break the cycle of losing something in the house?
In the past you had the option of Tile, which is a great platform you can use to locate missed items. This technology has been around for several years, and it has worked quite well within the confines of your home. As it often goes with technology though, you are about to find out that you have a couple of options available to you.
At the core, what this sort of technology is based off of is a Bluetooth item tracker. These trackers use this technology to help you find your missing item, and it works particularly well when it’s within the walls of your home.
Tile has been the “go to” platform for years now, but it had its limitations. Now it may have met its match as Apple has come up with their own version of an effective Bluetooth item tracker.
Apple has come out with their version of a Bluetooth item tracker, called AirTag. It may not be revolutionary in the way that it works, but Tile and other experts are saying that it may have a bit of an unfair advantage.
AirTag works in the same way as Tile, but it has the advantage of Apple technology behind it. This may help it to become an industry leader as it is about to launch within the next week or so.
At the core of AirTag is the feature of “Find My Network.” You may have used this for your own purposes if you ever temporarily lost your own phone. This feature helps you to locate where your phone is at. This works tremendously for users like you and I who may have lost our iPhone or iPad over the years—and truthfully it happens to all of us.
So this very technology that has been instrumental in helping you to find that temporarily lost device is at work in the new AirTag product as well.
Tile has partnered up with Amazon, which is the beginning of a beautiful relationship!
The beauty of this relationship and product is that it can work off of Amazon products such as Echo within your house. So if you have these set up, the Bluetooth technology and these products will help to work together in locating your missing item. Sounds great, right? Except that the experts at Tile feel that this technology won’t be able to compete with the new AirTag product.
AirTag and Tile work essentially the same way, and so the benefit to the user is inherent with either option. Where AirTag really stands out though is that it uses the rather significant network for “Find My Network” to locate your item quickly and easily.
Tile requires you to have your location turned on and for its app to be installed for it to send the location of the item you are trying to find. So there are some limitations to the Tile and Amazon partnership and product, and this is where the concern comes in.
What does this mean for you as the user? You really can’t go wrong with either product, and both have their advantages. Tile has been around for years and has the technology to help you in locating your missing item, particularly if its within your house.
It has certain limitations if you are looking outside of your house or even in your backyard, but otherwise it can work great. It can be a helpful tool to ensure that you get what you need and aren’t constantly on the hunt.
With AirTag you get the added bonus of locating items that may not be within your home. If the missing item may be in your backyard for example, then this product can work tremendously.
It can also work well if other family members are trying to locate your item, particularly if you are all Apple users. So yes AirTag can broaden the search area and be used by multiple people. This may set it apart, unless that sort of thing really doesn’t matter to you.
It will be interesting to see Amazon and Apple battle it out in this category moving forward. For now as a user, you can take advantage of some really great technology to help you in finding missing items. Though it’s a common occurrence, it can be truly frustrating when you are in the midst of it.
The great news here is that there are two great options, both of which will be helpful. Both the Amazon Tile and AirTag are easy to use, get the job done, and work well for you as the user.
Check into one of these and see how well they can work for you. They can both help you to stay on top of those items that go missing all too often. You will love what this technology can do for you—and you will never lose those car keys again!

I have used Tile for many years because I’m always losing my phone and my keys. Tile gives you the general location and then you listen for the ring tone. Now, if there’s a way for it to be more specific as to which room it’s in, I’ll go with that one!
I’ve had tile but worried about the distance limitations. I now have the Apple AirTag which can use not only my phone but everyone’s Apple phone to find things. I may have a Tile for sale.
